Week Three (Nov. 20, 2019)
Hayden Waddell – Mount Olive
A freshman out of Asheboro, N.C., Waddell became the first-ever individual champion at an open for the Trojans, placing first at 125 pounds at the Star City Classic in Salem, Va.
Waddell was 4-0 overall at the Star City Classic. In the first-place match, Waddell secured an 8-4 win by major decision over JD McMillin of Ferrum College.
Week Two (Nov. 13, 2019)
Mitchell Dean – Belmont Abbey
Dean was fantastic for Belmont Abbey at the Mount Union Open, going 5-0 en route to his second straight open title in the 157-pound weight class. The junior from Mebane, N.C. one week earlier had also gone 5-0 in securing first-place honors at 157 pounds at the Georgia Open.
Week One (Nov. 6, 2019)
Tony Morales – King
A sophomore out of Phenix City, Ala., Morales finished runner-up at the Southeast Open at 165 pounds. He was 4-1 overall at the Southeast Open in Roanoke, Va.
Morales first bested Bilal Estwani, 4-1, before picking up three straight pins over Ethan Hoffman of North Carolina in 0:59, Billy Christie of Newberry in 3:58 and Jack Ervien of Campbell in 1:36. He dropped the championship bout to Michael Ferree of Campbell.
