HIGH POINT, N.C. – King University's Kay Brokering was named the Conference Carolinas Softball Player of the Week, while University of Mount Olive's Haley Brogden was tabbed the Conference Carolinas Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 18-24, the Conference announced today.
A senior from Shelbyville, Ind., Brokering paced King to a 4-0 record last week after tallying seven hits, including four extra base hits (2 2B, 3B, HR), with six RBI and four runs scored. Brokering's best performance came in a 14-6 win over Davis & Elkins, going 3-for-5 with one double, one home run, four RBI and two runs scored.
A sophomore from Mount Olive, N.C., Brogden picked up a 4-0 complete game win over Charleston (WV) in her lone appearance last week. Brogden let up two hits while punching out seven batters in seven innings of work.
Also nominated for Softball Player of the Week:
Eileen Barrera (Mount Olive) - Batted .600 with three hits and three RBI in two games.
Also nominated for Softball Pitcher of the Week:
Casey Gilbert (King) - 1-0 record with seven innings pitched with one strikeout and 0.00 ERA in one appearance. Batted .455 with five hits and two RBI in four games.
