Mount Olive's Ritter and Southern Wesleyan's Smith Named Conference Carolinas Women's Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – University of Mount Olives's Celine Ritter and Southern Wesleyan University's Kelsie Smith have been named the Conference Carolinas Women’s Indoor Track & Field Athletes of the Week, respectively, for meets held Jan. 15 - Jan. 21, the Conference announced today.
A freshman from Roesrath, Germany, Ritter moved into second place in the University of Mount Olive record books this weekend after an impressive performance in the mile. Her time, which narrowly missed the provisional qualifying mark, was good for fourth place at the meet. That time leads the conference by 15 seconds and is also the top time in the Southeast Region so far this season.
Smith, a freshman from Stafford, V.A., showed her growing potential in the weight throw at the Wake Forest Invitational this past weekend. Her mark of 13.80m (45' 3 1/2") improved her collegiate personal best and set a new school record for the second weekend in a row. Her throw, good for 10th place at the meet, puts her atop the Conference Carolinas leaderboard in that event.
Also nominated for Women’s Indoor Track Athlete of the Week: Millie Klefsaas (North Greenville), Millie McCoy (Lees-McRae), and Maya McQune (Belmont Abbey).
Also nominated for Women’s Indoor Field Athlete of the Week: Brittany Beckford (Mount Olive) and Kaitlyn Gearing (Lees-McRae).
