Belmont Abbey's Genthe and Mount Olive's Hudson Named Conference Carolinas Baseball Players of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Belmont Abbey College's Josh Genthe was tabbed the Conference Carolinas Baseball Player of the Week, while University of Mount Olive's Brighton Hudson was tabbed the Conference Carolinas Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played Mar. 12-18, the Conference announced today.
Genthe, a senior Broadway, N.C., paced the No. 13 Crusaders to a 4-0 record last week. The shortstop would collect nine hits for a .563 average with three doubles and two homers and 11 RBI. Genthe's week was highlighted by a 4-for-4 outing with three doubles and five RBI in a 15-9 non-conference win over Carson-Newman on Mar. 14.
This is the fourth POTW honor for Belmont Abbey this season and the first for Genthe. Genthe currently has a .301 batting average with 34 RBI, seven homers and two triples on the year. His RBI total ranks third in Conference Carolinas, while his home run and triple totals rank fifth and sixth, respectively.
A senior from Garner, N.C., Hudson tossed a gem for the Trojans in a 12-0 victory over Southern Wesleyan. Hudson would let up three hits with one walk to go with 12 strikeouts, picking up the win in seven innings of work.
This is Hudson's first POTW honor and the second overall for Mount Olive this season. Hudson is 4-1 on the season with 64 strikeouts and a 1.80 ERA. His 64 strikeouts rank second in Conference Carolinas, while his ERA and four wins rank third and sixth, respectively.
