North Greenville's Chandler and Erskine's Carpin Named Conference Carolinas Baseball Players of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – North Greenville University's Jeffrey Chandler was tabbed the Conference Carolinas Baseball Player of the Week, while Erskine College's Michael Carpin was tabbed the Conference Carolinas Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played Feb. 26 - Mar. 4, the Conference announced today.
Chandler, a junior from Scottsdale, Ariz., led NGU to a 3-1 record last week, which included taking two of three games from No. 3 Belmont Abbey. The outfielder posted a .375 average with six hits, which included two doubles and two homers, and eight RBI. His best game was a 3-for-4 showing at the plate with a double, homer and four RBI in a 9-5 win in game one of a doubleheader over Belmont Abbey on Mar. 3.
Chandler currently has a .313 batting average with 15 RBI and three home runs on the season.
A senior from Mount Pleasant, S.C., Carpin threw eight innings of one-hit ball but ended his outing with a no decision against Southern Wesleyan last week. He would issue two walks and strikeout 11 batters, helping the Flying Fleet to an eventual 3-2 extra inning victory over SWU.
Carpin sports a 3-0 record on the season with 43 strikeouts and a 1.32 ERA. His 43 strikeouts rank second in Conference Carolinas, while his ERA and wins rank third and fifth, respectively.
