Barton's Peterkin Named Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week
HIGH POINT, N.C. – Barton College center Shanika Peterkin has been named the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Feb. 18-24, the Conference announced today. This marks the second POTW for Peterkin and the sixth overall for Barton.
A sophomore from Virginia Beach, Va., Peterkin led Barton to a Conference Carolinas win over King in the team's lone game last week. In the 78-22 win, Peterkin missed out on a 20-20 game by posting 20 points and 19 rebounds to go with three blocks, three assists and one steal.
Peterkin currently averages 9.5 points and 11.4 rebounds, 3.7 blocks, two assists and 1.2 steals per game. Her blocks and rebounds per game both rank first in Conference Carolinas.
Also nominated for Women's Basketball Player of the Week:
Maria Kuhlman (Belmont Abbey) - Averaged 20 points, 3.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists and one steal in two games.
Kristen Cupples (King) - Averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and two assists in two games.
Markia Stacey (Lees-McRae) - Averaged 13 points and 6.5 assists in two games.
Karen Donehew (North Greenville) - Averaged 20 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and two steals in two games.
Hanna Grogan (Emmanuel) - Averaged 21 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.5 blocks in two games.
Felecity Havens (Mount Olive) - Averaged 31 points, six rebounds, two steals and one block in two games.
