Conference Carolinas Tuesday Weekly Award Winners

  • Player of the Week
    Zaria Clark, UNC Pembroke

    A junior guard from Stanley, North Carolina, Zaria Clark of UNC Pembroke scored a career-best 28 points in UNC Pembroke’s narrow 66-61 loss to No. 4 Catawba. She also had six rebounds, two steals and two assists. 

    Clark knocked down two three-pointers in the contest and finished the game shooting an impressive 10-of-18 (55.6 percent) from the field overall. Clark is currently fifth-best in Conference Carolinas with 16.0 points per game. 

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Imani Hickman, Chowan

    A sophomore forward from Huntington, West Virginia, Imani Hickman of Chowan finished Chowan’s game with No. 19 Virginia State with 18 rebounds and 16 points. She collected 11 of her 18 boards on the defensive glass. 

    Hickman also had one steal and one block in the contest against nationally-ranked Virginia State. Her 18 rebounds were a career-best. Hickman is presently second in Conference Carolinas with 9.4 rebounds per game.

  • Player of the Week
    KJ Jones II, Emmanuel

    A senior guard from Atlanta, Georgia, KJ Jones II picked up his third weekly honor from Conference Carolinas after averaging 31.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.6 steals per game in Emmanuel’s three games over the holiday season. 

    Jones shot 53 percent (26-of-49) from the field in the three games and knocked down 61 percent (11-of-18) of his three-point attempts. He connected on 31 of his 35 free throw attempts (89 percent) in the three games. The nation’s leading scorer at 26.5 points per game, Jones scored over 20 in all three games, including posting 43 in a victory over Lenoir-Rhyne. 

    Jones leads Conference Carolinas in scoring (26.5), free throw percentage (89.8) and minutes (37.5 per game), but he is also in the top-10 in assists (3.8) and in the top-15 in steals (1.5) and field goal percentage (49.1).

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Nygell Verdier, UNC Pembroke

    A junior guard from Charlotte, North Carolina, Nygell Verdier finished UNC Pembroke’s strong region non-conference win over Tusculum with three steals and eight rebounds. 

    Verdier posted a career-best 23 points in the win over the Pioneers. He shot 58 percent (7-of-12) from the field in the victory. Verdier is currently fourth in Conference Carolinas with 7.5 rebounds per game. He has now earned weekly honors twice in the 2023-24 season.

  • Wrestler of the Week
    Keegan Roberson, UNC Pembroke

    A sophomore from Chicago, Illinois, Keegan Roberson of UNC Pembroke finished the Citrus Invitational last week at an impressive 4-1. 

    The sixth-ranked wrestler at 157 pounds, Roberson picked up two first-period pins and two tech falls in advancing to the first-place match. Roberson is 22-5 on the 2023 season.
