KJ Jones II, Emmanuel
A senior guard from Atlanta, Georgia, KJ Jones II picked up his third weekly honor from Conference Carolinas after averaging 31.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.6 steals per game in Emmanuel’s three games over the holiday season.
Jones shot 53 percent (26-of-49) from the field in the three games and knocked down 61 percent (11-of-18) of his three-point attempts. He connected on 31 of his 35 free throw attempts (89 percent) in the three games. The nation’s leading scorer at 26.5 points per game, Jones scored over 20 in all three games, including posting 43 in a victory over Lenoir-Rhyne.
Jones leads Conference Carolinas in scoring (26.5), free throw percentage (89.8) and minutes (37.5 per game), but he is also in the top-10 in assists (3.8) and in the top-15 in steals (1.5) and field goal percentage (49.1).
Defensive Player of the Week
Nygell Verdier, UNC Pembroke
A junior guard from Charlotte, North Carolina, Nygell Verdier finished UNC Pembroke’s strong region non-conference win over Tusculum with three steals and eight rebounds.
Verdier posted a career-best 23 points in the win over the Pioneers. He shot 58 percent (7-of-12) from the field in the victory. Verdier is currently fourth in Conference Carolinas with 7.5 rebounds per game. He has now earned weekly honors twice in the 2023-24 season.
