Conference Carolinas Monday Weekly Award Winners

  • Player of the Week
    Kory Grant, Mount Olive

    A sophomore right side/setter from Pembroke Pines, Florida, Kory Grant of Mount Olive averaged 5.14 points per set with 30 kills on a staggering .565 hitting percentage in two Trojan league wins last week. 

    Last Friday night, Grant led the team with 12 kills on a .588 clip while adding four digs and two blocks in a conference sweep over Erskine. The following day, Grant produced a career-high 17 kills on a .552 hitting percentage with three service aces and two blocks in a 3-1 win against Emmanuel.

    Grant is tied for fifth in Conference Carolinas with a .307 hitting percentage.  

    Specialist of the Week
    Jackson Lahey, Mount Olive

    A sophomore setter from Pembroke Pines, Florida, Jackson Lahey of Mount Olive averaged 11.71 assists and 1.57 digs per set as Mount Olive registered a 2-0 record in league play. 

    Lahey guided the offensive this past Friday night with 33 assists while adding three aces, four digs and three blocks in a sweep of Erskine. This past Saturday afternoon, Lahey directed the offense with a season-high 49 assists and tallied seven digs in a 3-1 win over Emmanuel.

    Lahey is currently fourth in Conference Carolinas with 9.67 assists per set. Lahey has now claimed weekly honors from the conference office twice in the 2024 season.

  • Player of the Week
    Tynasia Bunting, Chowan

    A junior guard from Newport News, Virginia, Tynasia Bunting of Chowan tied the Conference Carolinas women’s basketball single-game season high with 39 points in a conference win over Lees-McRae.

    Bunting finished the league win over Lees-McRae with 39 points, nine rebounds, six assists and three steals. In capturing the 39 points, Bunting concluded her efforts shooting an impressive 12-of-19 (63 percent) from the field. She shot 60 percent (6-of-10) from beyond the arc. She also made 9 of her 11 free throw attempts (82 percent) in the contest.

    Bunting is sixth in Conference Carolinas with 16.6 points per game. She has collected weekly honors from Conference Carolinas twice in the 2023-24 season. 

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Lauryn Taylor, Francis Marion

    A senior forward/center from Blythewood, South Carolina, Lauryn Taylor averaged 18.0 points, 15.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals in two league wins last week.  

    Taylor had 23 defensive rebounds in the two games to go along with three steals. Taylor was part of a Patriot defense that held their opponents to just 61.5 points per game on 33.8 percent shooting. The team forced 30 turnovers in the two league victories for the Patriots. 

    Taylor has now claimed weekly honors from the conference eight times in the 2023-24 season. Taylor leads all of NCAA Division II with 14.8 rebounds per game. She is also third in Conference Carolinas in scoring with 18.0 points per game.

  • Player of the Week
    KJ Jones II, Emmanuel

    A senior guard from Atlanta, Georgia, KJ Jones II collected his sixth weekly honor from Conference Carolinas by averaging 29.5 points, 5.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game in two conference wins last week for Emmanuel. 

    Jones closed out Emmanuel’s league win over Young Harris with 27 points, seven assists, three steals and three rebounds. He followed that up by finishing with 32 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block in Emmanuel’s conference win over Belmont Abbey. 

    Jones leads of all of NCAA Division II with 26.1 points per game. He is also third in Conference Carolinas in assists per game at 4.4. 

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Elijah Cobb, UNC Pembroke

    A redshirt junior forward from Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Elijah Cobb of UNC Pembroke finished UNC Pembroke’s two league wins last week with seven steals and three blocks. 

    In UNC Pembroke’s conference win over Mount Olive, Cobb stuffed the stat sheet with 18 points, eight rebounds, six assists, three steals and three blocks. He closed out the week with 10 rebounds, four steals, four points and three assists in a league win over Converse.

  • Offensive Player of the Week
    Hailey Obenchain, Converse

    A sophomore on attack from Newburgh, Indiana, Hailey Obenchain of Converse finished Converse’s two games last week with 14 points. 

    Obenchain finished the two games having scored nine goals to go along with five assists. She also collected six ground balls. Obenchain had four goals and two assists in a league game with Belmont Abbey before ending her week with five goals and three assists in a win over Mars Hill. 

    Obenchain is currently in the top-10 in Conference Carolinas in points (5.25), goals (3.25) and assists (2.00) per game. 

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Anna James, Mount Olive

    A junior goalie from Syracuse, New York, Anna James of Mount Olive made a pair of appearances in the cage last week and collected her first collegiate victory in the Trojans’ 23-7 league victory at Emmanuel. 

    Last Tuesday, James entered the game off the bench with nine saves in 46-plus minute of work in a 16-7 loss to No. 12 ranked Embry-Riddle. Against Emmanuel, she registered three saves while producing a pair of caused turnovers and one ground ball in 25-plus minutes of action. In the first quarter, James recorded a save at the 10:55 mark before recording back-to-back caused turnovers in just 26 seconds. She tallied a save in the final minutes of the first before recording her final save of the game at the 2:55 mark of the second quarter.

    James leads Conference Carolinas with a .545 saves percentage.

  • Offensive Player of the Week
    Erik Dozzi, Chowan

    A senior on attack from Coquitlam, British Columbia in Canada, Erik Dozzi of Chowan tallied 10 points in a win over the University of District of Columbia. 

    Dozzi ended the Chowan victory with eight goals and two assists. He also collected six ground balls. 

    Dozzi currently leads Conference Carolinas in points (7.00) and goals (5.00) per game. He has now claimed weekly honors twice in the 2024 season. 

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Kurtis Lensing, Mount Olive

    A sophomore goalie from Wake Forest, North Carolina, Kurtis Lensing of Mount Olive collected a career-high 16 saves and four ground balls in the cage while facing nearly 50 shots in a thrilling 11-10 victory over Roberts Wesleyan in non-conference play. 

    Lensing registered six saves in the opening quarter and limited the opponent to just one goal on 14 shots. Lensing claimed five more saves in the second quarter before adding five additional stops in the second half. He recorded his final save with 1:32 remaining in the fourth to seal the victory.

    Lensing is tied for third in Conference Carolinas with an average of 12.5 saves per game.
