Conference Carolinas Monday Weekly Award Winners

  • Player of the Week
    Eli Zdonek, Emmanuel

    A senior outside hitter from Greenville, South Carolina, Eli Zdonek of Emmanuel averaged 3.75 points, 3.63 kills and 1.75 digs per set in two matches last week for the Lions. Zdonek had double-digit kills in both matches. 

    In Emmanuel's four-set win over Edward Waters, Zdonek finished his efforts with 14 kills and four digs. He followed that up by collecting a double-double with 15 kills and 10 digs in a four-set match against nationally-ranked Lincoln Memorial. 

    Zdonek is in the top-10 in Conference Carolinas in kills per set at 2.88.  

    Specialist of the Week
    Jack Walsh, Belmont Abbey

    A junior setter from Lombard, Illinois, Jack Walsh of Belmont Abbey averaged an impressive 11.50 assists per set last week for the Crusaders.

    Walsh concluded Belmont Abbey's sweep of Benedict with 23 assists. He also had two blocks and one kill.

  • Player of the Week
    Lauren Walker, Barton

    A senior guard from Charlotte, North Carolina, Lauren Walker of Barton put on a show with 30 points, nine rebounds and a block in the Bulldog conference victory over Converse. 

    Walker finished the game shooting 45 percent (9-of-20) from the field and 10-of-12 (83 percent) from the charity stripe. Walker is currently fourth in Conference Carolinas in scoring per game at 17.7. 

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Lauryn Taylor, Francis Marion

    A senior forward/center from Blythewood, South Carolina, Lauryn Taylor of Francis Marion was strong defensively last week with 20 defensive rebounds, two steals and one block. Taylor averaged 17.0 points, 16.0 rebounds, 1.5 assists and a steal per game in two conference wins for the Patriots.

    In Francis Marion's win over Chowan, Taylor ended her efforts with 22 points, 19 rebounds and two steals. She followed that up procuring 13 rebounds to go along with 12 points in Francis Marion's victory over Southern Wesleyan. 

    Taylor leads Conference Carolinas in rebounds per game (13.4) and is third in the conference in scoring at 18.1 points per game.

    She has now claimed weekly honors from the conference six times in the 2023-24 season.

  • Player of the Week
    KJ Jones II, Emmanuel

    A senior guard from Atlanta, Georgia, KJ Jones II picked up his fourth weekly honor from Conference Carolinas after averaging 27.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game in a 2-0 week for the Lions. 

    In Emmanuel's win over Erskine, Jones finished the contest with 25 points, five assists, four rebounds and one steal. In one of the biggest games of the regular season, Jones helped lead Emmanuel past UNC Pembroke with 30 points, seven rebounds, three assists and two steals. Jones ended the week shooting 53 percent (17-of-32) from the field. He knocked down 17 of his 21 free throw attempts (81 percent). 

    Jones leads all of NCAA Division II with 25.2 points per game. He is also fourth in the league in assists at 4.0 per contest. 

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Mikhail Pocknett, King

    A freshman forward from Wilmington, North Carolina, Mikhail Pocknett of King had eight steals and one block in a 3-0 week for the Tornado. 

    In the three victories, Pocknett averaged 16 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. In King's rivalry win over Lees-McRae, Pocknett finished his efforts with 18 points, eight rebounds, five steals and two assists. He followed that up by posting 12 points, five rebounds and three steals in a win over Johnson & Wales. In King's win over North Greenville, Pocknett finished with a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to go along with one assist and one block. 

    Pocknett is presently tied for fourth in Conference Carolinas with 1.8 steals per game.

    Player of the Week: KJ Jones II, Emmanuel

  • Offensive Player of the Week
    Paige Murphy, Emmanuel

    A freshman on attack from Calgary, Alberta in Canada, Paige Murphy started her career strongly with six goals in Emmanuel's 13-12 win over SCAD Savannah. 

    Murphy collected three draw controls and had one ground ball in the season-opening win for the Lions.  

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Kinsley Purser, Young Harris

    A senior in midfield from Duluth, Georgia, Kinsley Purser of Young Harris was stout defensively in the season-opening win for Young Harris over Mars Hill. 

    Purser concluded Young Harris' 24-3 win over Mars Hill with one caused turnover and two ground balls. She also had two goals and an assist in the game.

  • Offensive Player of the Week
    Aidan Lalonde, Mount Olive

    A senior from Coquitlam, British Columbia in Canada, Aidan Lalonde of Mount Olive tallied five points on two goals and three assists, as the Trojans battled in a 13-11 loss at No. 19 ranked Lander.

    After trailing 2-0, he delivered the assist on Mount Olive’s first goal of the season before registering a goal late in the first quarter. Lalonde tallied a second goal in the opening minutes of the second quarter before recording two assists in the final six minutes of the first half.

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Angus Snow, Belmont Abbey

    A freshman from Victoria, British Columbia in Canada, Angus Snow of Belmont Abbey was pivotal in goal for the Crusaders in their season-opening win over Mars Hill. 

    Snow made 10 saves and logged all 60 minutes between the pipes in the victory.
