Conference Carolinas Monday Weekly Award Winners

  • Player of the Week
    Pablo Zamar, Erskine

    A sophomore outside hitter from Jujuy, Argentina, Pablo Zamar of Erskine averaged 4.83 points, 4.38 kills and 1.63 digs per set in two league matches last week for the Flying Fleet. 

    In Erskine’s conference sweep of Emmanuel, Zamar finished with 13 kills and four digs. He followed that up with 22 kills and nine digs in a five-set league match with Belmont Abbey. He hit .294 in the five-set match. 

    Zamar is third in Conference Carolinas with 3.33 kills per set. 

    Specialist of the Week
    Joseph Morris, Belmont Abbey

    A freshman setter from Bethesda, Maryland, Joseph Morris of Belmont Abbey averaged an impressive 10.11 assists to go along with 2.22 digs per set in two league wins last week for the Crusaders. 

    In Belmont Abbey’s four-set league win over North Greenville, Morris finished with 46 assists and six digs. He followed that up by collecting a double-double with 45 assists and 14 digs in Belmont Abbey’s thrilling five-set conference victory over Erskine. 

    Morris is currently third in Conference Carolinas in assists per set at 9.65.

  • Player of the Week
    Lauryn Taylor, Francis Marion

    A senior forward/center from Blythewood, South Carolina, Lauryn Taylor scored 16 points to go along with 20 rebounds in Francis Marion’s come-from-behind victory over Belmont Abbey. 

    Taylor shot 8-of-12 from the floor and recorded two assists, one block and one steal. During the game, Taylor became only the sixth player in Francis Marion women’s basketball program history to surpass 1,000 career rebounds (she enters the Atlantic Casualty Conference Carolinas Women’s Basketball Championship with 1,008).  

    Taylor has now claimed weekly honors from the conference nine times in the 2023-24 season. Taylor leads all of NCAA Division II with 15.0 rebounds per game. She is also second in Conference Carolinas in scoring with 17.9 points per game. 

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Lillian Flantos, UNC Pembroke

    A senior forward from Lumberton, North Carolina, Lillian Flantos of UNC Pembroke was stellar defensively in a regular season-ending league win over Chowan. 

    Flantos finished the 69-62 East Division-clinching conference win with four steals to go along with nine points, five rebounds and one assist. The four steals were a career-best.

  • Player of the Week
    Jordan Akal, King

    A sophomore guard from Harlan, Kentucky, Jordan Akal of King was spectacular for the Tornado in their regular-season finale against rival Lees-McRae. 

    Akal poured in a career-high 36 points on 10-for-19 shooting, including 7-for-15 from long range. He also went 9-for-10 from the free throw line and snared seven rebounds to go along with two assists, two steals and one block. His seven three-pointers in the league game are tied for fourth-most in a single game in King men’s basketball program history.

    Akal is in the top-15 in Conference Carolinas in scoring at 14.0 points per game. Akal has now collected weekly honors twice in the 2023-24 season.

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Mikhail Pocknett, King

    A freshman forward from Wilmington, North Carolina, Mikhail Pocknett of King was solid on the defensive end against rival Lees-McRae, collecting five steals and one block. 

    Pocknett also added a pair of rebounds. He also had 15 points in the contest. Pocknett is tied for fifth in Conference Carolinas with 7.6 rebounds per game. He is fifth in Conference Carolinas in points per game at 17.8.

    Pocknett has now claimed weekly honors twice in the 2023-24 season.

  • Offensive Player of the Week
    Ella Hancock, Young Harris

    A senior in midfield from Johns Creek, Georgia, Ella Hancock of Young Harris finished Young Harris’ league showdown with Belmont Abbey with nine points. 

    Hancock finished the contest with six goals and three assists. She also collected two ground balls. 

    Hancock is in the top-10 in Conference Carolinas with 2.83 goals per game. 

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Summer Eddinger, Belmont Abbey

    A sophomore goalie from Fallston, Maryland, Summer Eddinger of Belmont Abbey recorded 12 saves in a conference win over Young Harris this past Saturday. This included two huge saves in the final 2:30 to help the Crusaders hold off a late comeback from the Mountain Lions. 

    Eddinger finished with two ground balls against Young Harris. She also had 10 saves in the conference win at Emmanuel. She also finished with three caused turnovers against the Lions.

    Eddinger leads Conference Carolinas with 10.57 saves per game.

  • Offensive Player of the Week
    Eric George, Chowan

    A senior in midfield from Stony Plain, Alberta in Canada, Eric George of Chowan closed out a win over Virginia State with 11 points.

    George ended his efforts in the Chowan win with eight goals and three assists. 

    George is currently second in Conference Carolinas in points (6.80) and goals (3.40) per game. 

    Defensive Player of the Week
    Alex Stewart, Barton

    A sophomore goalie from Harford County in Maryland, Alex Stewart of Barton made 12 saves in a one-goal win over Catawba. 

    Stewart also picked up two ground balls in the 11-10 win over Catawba.
