Conference Carolinas Tuesday Weekly Award Winners

  • Player of the Week
    Jessica Campbell, King

    A senior outfielder from Graysville, Tennessee, Jessica Campbell of King hit an impressive .824 (14-of-17) last week in five games for the Tornado. She owned a slugging percentage of 1.235 and an on-base percentage of .789. 

    Campbell closed out her week with three triples, a double and six RBIs. She also scored four runs. She enters the upcoming week having had nine multi-hit games in a row. 

    Campbell leads all of Conference Carolinas with a .537 batting average. 

    Pitcher of the Week
    Alyssa Poston, Francis Marion

    A sophomore from Hartsville, South Carolina, Alyssa Poston of Francis Marion continued her amazing start to the 2024 season last week by owning a 0.54 ERA in three appearances in the circle. 

    Poston pitched a total of 24.0 innings in her three starts last week. She allowed only 12 hits and surrendered just two earned runs with 36 strikeouts. Poston did not walk a batter and opponents hit just .150 against her on the week. In Francis Marion's 10-inning 5-2 win at UNC Pembroke, Poston struck out a school-record 18. 

    Poston enters the upcoming week having now gone 32 innings without walking a batter, while also striking out 44 during that same span. Poston leads all of Conference Carolinas in the circle with a .165 opposing batting average and a 1.66 ERA. She has now claimed weekly honors in three straight weeks.

  • Player of the Week
    Dale Francis, Jr., Erskine

    A redshirt junior from Fort Pierce, Florida, Dale Francis, Jr. of Erskine closed out four games for the Flying Fleet last week hitting .613 (8-for-13) with 10 RBIs and seven runs scored. 

    Francis finished his efforts in the four games with four extra-base hits on three home runs and one double. He had multiple hits in three of the four games, which included having three hits in two of the four. All three of his home runs came in a conference series win over Southern Wesleyan. In Erskine's 12-2 second game win in the series, Francis belted two home runs. 

    Francis is currently third in Conference Carolinas with 27 RBIs. He is second in the league in home runs with seven. 

    Pitcher of the Week
    Ethan Imbimbo, Mount Olive

    A graduate student from Brentwood, New Hampshire, Ethan Imbimbo of Mount Olive improved to 3-0 on the mound last week after an impressive 1-0 shutout win over No. 2 North Greenville in game one of the series.

    Imbimbo allowed zero runs on two hits with a season-high seven strikeouts over 6.1 innings pitched. Imbimbo retired the side in order four times while forcing six ground outs and six fly outs. Imbimbo and reliever senior Andrew Ledbetter handed North Greenville its first shutout loss since 2021.

    Imbimbo is tops in Conference Carolinas this season in hits allowed (17) and he is second in opposing batting average (.183).

    Week 6 (March 12, 2024)

    Player of the Week: Dale Francis, Jr., Erskine

  • Athlete of the Week
    Kacie Kier, Limestone

    A sophomore base/tumbler from Elgin, South Carolina, Kacie Kier of Limestone competed in 10 heats in Limestone's dominating performance against West Liberty. Nationally seventh-ranked Limestone posted its highest team score in program history in the 274.020-263.440 win over West Liberty 

    Kier competed in 10 heats in the win where she helped score a 9.5 or above in six heats. She competed in various positions throughout the meet as a base and tumbler. In the Compulsory event, she competed as a main base in Heat one, a front spot in Heat three and is an asset in Heat 4 as a tumbler. In the Acro Event, she completes seven skills that are a C or above (out of 11 skills competed). Kier is a main base in both Heat one and Heat two where she helped the team get the highest Acro event total of the season (28.8). 

    In Pyramid three, She is a mid level base of a 10.0 start value pyramid that scored a 9.9. Kacie front spots a 9.9 start value toss in heat one, scoring a 9.8. She front spots a 9.4 start value toss in heat two, which scored a 9.1. In tumbling, Kacie competed in the Aerial heat where she scored a 9.975 out of 10.0. In the team event, Kier competes at various positions to help raise the start value of the event. She front bases two tosses, completes a 10.0 start value standing tumbling pass, main bases two Acro sequences, mid levels a 10.0 start value pyramid and completes a 9.5 running tumbling pass. During the competition, Kacie competed in at least four different positions through the heats: main base, front base, tumbler and mid level.

    Specialist of the Week
    Bridget Sweeney, King

    A sophomore top/tumbler from Royersford, Pennsylvania, Bridget Sweeney of King competed in the synchronized pyramid heat as the top where she scored a 9.9/10.0 with a 270 twist to a straddle on a bridge with a 360 twist dismount. 

    Sweeney also competed in the open pyramid heat as a top where she also scored a 9.9/10.0 with a 270 twist up to a pike hold on a bridge with a 360 front flip dismount. Both of the scores as well as the pyramid event scores were season-highs for the Tornado. The synchronized pyramid score was within 0.05 of the school record.
