Barton's Peterkin Named Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week

HIGH POINT, N.C.Barton College center Shanika Peterkin has been named the Conference Carolinas Women's Basketball Player of the Week for games played Jan. 8-14, the Conference announced today.

Peterkin, a freshman from Virginia Beach, Va., shot 78.6 percent from the field and nearly averaged a triple-double with 12 points, 9.5 blocks and eight rebounds per game last week for the Bulldogs as they went 2-0 in Conference play.

In a 90-79 win over rival Mount Olive, Peterkin posted a triple-double of 14 points, 11 rebounds and 11 blocks with two steals. She would then score 10 points with eight blocks and five rebounds in a 73-67 win over North Greenville.

Peterkin currently averages 8.4 rebounds, 5.5 points and 3.9 blocks per game. Her blocks per game ranks first in Conference Carolinas, while her rebounds rank fourth.
